An added advantage for Samsung phones which needed earlier an exeternal memory card slot.Samsung Electronics has announced that it has developed a four gigabyte (GB) multi-chip package (MCP) for mobile phones which for the first time will forgo the need for an external memory card slot.
The device also eliminates having to develop interface software for all types of NAND memory. The new moviMCP combines a 4GB embedded memory card for multimedia files like movies and music, together with a 1Gb (gigabit) mobile DRAM chip to support the processor and a 2Gb NAND flash chip for general handset operations.
It stacks several memory functions vertically to enable a small footprint. Its high density eliminates the need for having to provide an external expansion slot, Samsung said in its release.
Samsung has currently made the moviMCP available only to original equipment managers to sample.Users carrying Smasung phones will not require to spend more bucks for the external memory card.
