Verizon Wireless reports 1.6 million net adds

The second largest US cellular operator, Verizon Wireless, added 1.6 million net new customers in the three months to the end of June, taking its total subscriber base to 62.1 million including wholesale accounts. The growth was achieved through strong gross add performance and continued low retail post-paid churn, it said. The cellco claims that the Verizon Wireless brand is the most popular in the US, with 60.1 million retail customers at the end of June. Rival operator and market leader AT&T can claim more customers in total, but it has a larger number of wholesale users on its networks who are served via various resellers.
