Hutch cross 50 lakh subscribers in Guj, to triple investments

Cellular services provider Hutch on Wednesday announced it has crossed the 50 lakh subscriber mark in Gujarat.

The company also said that during the current financial year, it will invest around Rs 1,000 crore in the state. Hutch had last year invested Rs 330 crore in the state which contributes one-seventh of the total revenues of the company in India.

“Gujarat is the first state in the country where Hutch has crossed the 50 lakh subscriber mark,” Hutch(Gujarat) Operations Director Sunil Sood said.

“Today we cover more than 10,500 towns and villages in Gujarat and one in every 10 person in Gujarat is a Hutch subscriber,” he said.

With this, Gujarat has become the first circle among the 16 existing circles of Hutch to touch this mark. Uttar Pradesh, with 30 lakh Hutch subscribers, comes second, he added.

Among the country’s cellular service providers, only Bharti Airtel has touched the 50 lakh mark in Karnataka recently.

“In the last two years, our entire concentration has been to expand in the rural areas of Gujarat,” Sood said.

“Over 65 per cent of Hutch Gujarat’s subscribers now come from rural Gujarat,” he added.
