Swedish telecom equipment major Ericsson on Wednesday said it had bagged two deals to host multimedia services for BSNL. As per the deal, Ericsson will host the mobile content download portal and a ring-back tone service for BSNL.
This also marks BSNL’s first major outsourcing contract. Both BSNL and Ericsson did not disclose the financial details of the deals. This comes just a day after the Ericsson had tied-up with Spice Telecom to host its push e-mail service.
“BSNL is a key customer to Ericsson and we are proud to be chosen for these two hosting contracts. We feel positive that BSNL’s subscribers will enjoy these multimedia services we are supporting them with,†said Ericssson Vice-President and Head of Global Services Hans Vestberg.
Hosting services are part of Ericsson’s overall content package that also includes offerings for music, video and downloads. Ericsson will be responsible for running the next-generation portal which will offer a variety of mobile content and applications that subscribers can download via web, WAP or SMS.
The content includes ringtones, games, pictures, video clips and other software applications. The second agreement is for hosted ringback tones, one of the most popular and highest revenue-generating mobile data services available today.
The service is based on Ericsson’s Personalized Greeting Service, the company said. Ericsson will also be responsible for end-to-end systems integration as well as hosting and day-to-day management of both services, the company added.
