Bluetooth technology is a much hyped wireless technology in mobile phones. Though it is also used in computers and other technical devices such as laptops, printers, handheld organizers, this technology has given a distinct characteristic to the mobile phones. Bluetooth uses radio waves (in the 2.4 Gigahertz range), and is designed to be a secure and inexpensive way of connecting and exchanging information between devices without wires. We will see the uses of Bluetooth in mobile phones. Through a Bluetooth mobile phone such as Nokia 6680 or the Sony Ericsson P910, one can do a lot of technical activities. One can connect to one’s PC to transfer files and perform a backup, can exchange business cards, calendar entries and photos with other users. A Bluetooth headset is used for hands-free calling and combining a Bluetooth mobile phone with a headset means that a person can use his phone without holding it to his ear and without all those complicated wires. Bluetooth headsets are available from a range of stores, such as the Carphone Warehouse and Add Ons World. The phone can be used as a wireless modem from a Bluetooth-enabled laptop or PDA. Moreover, one can connect to a Bluetooth GPS unit for satellite navigation. Moreover, if one is having a Bluetooth hardware in the mobile phone, PDA, GPS or headset, there is no need to install special Bluetooth drivers as the software is built-in and it is all set to use.
