Airtel to launch 2G, 3G services in Sri Lanka

Bharti Airtel Lanka Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, on Wednesday said it will launch second and third generation mobile services in Sri Lanka by the end of current fiscal and invest 200 million dollars in the next five years.

“We are committed to offering affordable 2G and 3G services in Sri Lanka. With mobile penetration of around 30 per cent, which is growing at two million users per annum, we are excited about our entry into this market,” Bharti Airtel President (Mobile Services) Sanjay Kapoor said in a release.

Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel recently bagged the licence to provide 2G and 3G mobile services in Sri Lanka.

It said a major portion of the investment will be made within 18 months of the launch of services under the brand name of ‘Airtel’.
