Bose launches new computer speaker system, the Companion 5

Bose has introduced a new multimedia speaker system designed for use with PCs: the Companion 5.

The system hooks up to the computer via USB, and is composed of two speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass module. Together they deliver 5.1 stereo sound from just three devices, as they use TrueSpace surround sound processing.

The speakers come on stands for easy setup, and measure 7.1cm wide and 6.3cm deep. The Acoustimass module, which is essentially a subwoofer can be placed on the floor out of the way.

A control pod wired to the system features volume and mute buttons, as well as a headphone jack and input for a portable audio device or other source.

The Companion 5 joins the Companion 3 and 2 systems, both of which have had an update. The Companion 3, designed for stereo performance, now comes with newly-designed speakers pre-positioned on stands, while the Companion2, designed for simplicity with use with computers and portable players, has also received a bit of a redesign.
